This week, former Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called an American manufacturing renaissance a “pipe dream” during a live CNBC interview. Dismissing President Trump’s tariff-driven push to bring production back to U.S. soil, Yellen argued that such a goal wasn’t even “desirable.” Her words, set against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, seemed to echo the skepticism of economists who’ve long warned that global supply chains and high costs make reshoring unfeasible.
