The First Quiet Domino: Why Trump’s New U.S. Attorney in Miami Matters More Than You Think
By Larry O’Connor
While the corporate media hyperventilates over the dismissal of the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner — treating a routine personnel change like the second coming of Watergate — they’re ignoring a far more consequential development:
President Donald Trump’s first confirmed U.S. Attorney of his second term is now in place. And not just anywhere — in Miami.
That’s not just a warm-weather assignment. The Southern District of Florida includes Palm Beach County. That means Mar-a-Lago. That means Trump’s residence, the focal point of the now-infamous FBI raid over allegedly "classified" documents. It’s also ground zero for any future legal investigations involving federal misconduct tied to the Russiagate hoax or the weaponization of federal agencies.
And now, Jason A. Reding Quiñones is in charge there.
The Senate confirmed Reding Quiñones this weekend in a 51-41 vote. If you haven’t heard of him, it’s not your fault — the media buried the story beneath a mountain of thinkpieces about the BLS “controversy.” But this isn’t just a routine appointment. This is a strategic placement with long-term implications.
If the Trump administration pursues justice for the many abuses of power carried out during the first term — especially regarding FBI and DOJ malfeasance — any thread that leads to Palm Beach is now under the authority of a Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney.
Who is Jason Reding Quiñones?
Reding Quiñones is a Miami native and the son of a Cuban political refugee. He’s a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve, a former military lawyer, and a former federal prosecutor in Miami.
His early career at the U.S. Attorney’s Office was rocky. He received poor performance evaluations in the major crimes section and filed a (later dropped) racial discrimination complaint. He was eventually reassigned to the civil division, where he earned satisfactory reviews. In 2023, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed him to the Miami-Dade County bench.
Now, he returns to the federal office as its top prosecutor.
Why It Matters
Legal experts say the Senate confirmation process for U.S. Attorneys is usually rubber-stamped. Not this time. Reding Quiñones advanced on a strict party-line vote in committee and a narrow 51-41 vote in the Senate. His confirmation was the first clear indicator of how Trump plans to rebuild federal prosecutorial power — and where he intends to start.
And yet, the press? Crickets.
Too busy trying to spark outrage over a labor statistician’s replacement to notice that Trump just put a loyal U.S. Attorney in the exact jurisdiction where the FBI raided his home.
It’s a quiet domino — but a critical one.
Ignore the noise. Pay attention to the chessboard. Miami just flipped.
